Southside Health Education Foundation Expands
Exploring Program to Rising 7th, 8th, and 9th Graders

The Southside Health Education Foundation’s Southside Health Careers Exploring Program is launching a Middle School Camp this summer for rising 7th, 8th, and 9th graders.  The camp convenes June 22-26, 2015, operating from 9am to 3pm daily.  This one-of-a-kind camp offers a unique experience—introducing the region’s teenagers to the health industry and the variety of careers it provides.  There are a limited number of spaces available for this exciting new camp.  The camp application can be found by clicking here.  The deadline to apply is May 15, 2015.  Students will be notified by May 25th if they have been selected for this year’s camp.  The camp fee is $75 and is due upon acceptance.  This fee includes lunch, snacks and supplies.

Health South Rehabilitation Hospital in Petersburg will serve as the host.  Daily activities will include visits to different health facilities, colleges, and universities in the region.  Special guests, experiments and projects will allow students a chance to experience life inside the hospital and practice the critical thinking, problem solving, and team work necessary to do the job.  This camp is sure to be an unforgettable experience for local youth!  SHEF is grateful for financial support from the John Randolph Foundation, assistance from Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association, and its partnership with Boy Scouts of America Learning for Life to make this program possible.  Please contact Sherry L. Channell, SHEF Program Manager at schannell@shefva.org or call (804) 720-8067 if you have any questions.

Supporting education through scholarships, SHEF is committed to growing the number of healthcare workers who live and work in Southside Virginia.  Our service region includes the tri-cties of Petersburg, Hopewell and Colonial Heights and the counties of Dinwiddie, Prince George, Sussex and southeastern Chesterfield.

When residents from our region find great, well-paying jobs in our own backyard, they stay here, raise families here and build their lives here.  Scholarship applications are accepted from individuals affiliated with the region as a resident, healthcare employee or student.
